Report on the 2025 AQSSS–SPPQ Joint Congress

June 10–12, 2025, at Auberge de la Pointe, Rivière-du-Loup, QC.

Theme: Soil–Plant Interactions: The key to eco-responsible resource management.

Highlights

  • Keynote by Pascale Beauregard (Université de Sherbrooke) on soil bacteria and plant growth.
  • Plenaries from:
    • Benjamin Mimee (AAFC)– Nematodes in soil-plant interactions
    • Alison Munson (ULaval) – Root systems and carbon stabilization
    • Jean-François Lévêque (Jardins de l’écoumène)– Living soils and rhizophagy
    • Damase Khasa (ULaval)– Nature-based solutions for climate-resilient ecosystems
  • Oral and poster sessions on soil health, cover crops, and plant disease management.
  • A full-day field tour with visits to research sites and farms.

Overall: A well-organized meeting that successfully connected soil science and plant protection research with real-world farming practices and encouraged future collaborations.
