SUMMARY:Development of nanotechnology-based molecular delivery systems for crop protection.
DESCRIPTION:\nAbstract: Many producers manage pests using traditional broad-spectrum pesticides that indiscriminately impact both pests and beneficials. Ongoing research and development in the AAFC NanoLab aims to develop precision targeting crop treatments that manage pests at the species level. While genomics based active ingredients, such as RNAs to leverage RNA interference, have been investigated for more than a decade and are promising for precision targeting, little work has focused on real-world reproducible delivery into target organisms. This talk will highlight the ongoing works in the AAFC NanoLab to develop molecular delivery devices to enable real-world use of next generation precision targeting crop treatments.\n\n\n\nSpeaker: Justin Pahara heads the AAFC NanoLab, an applied science and engineering lab in Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada’s Lethbridge Research and Development Centre in Alberta. The NanoLab is de-risking important technology so to support development and commercialization of critical next generation crop treatment technology that producers need. Justin holds a B.Sc. (immunology and infection) and M.Sc. (cell biology) from the University of Alberta and a Ph.D. (chemical engineering and biotechnology) from the University of Cambridge.\n\n\n\nDate: February 17, 2026\n\n\n\nTime: 10:00 am MT/11:00 am CT\n\n\n\nLocation: Microsoft Teams\n\n\n\nMeeting link\n\n\n\nMeeting ID: 288 316 027 927\n\n\n\nPasscode: fJ7tV7KA\n\n\n\nDial in by phone\n\n\n\n+1 647-498-8268,,986926499# ( tel:+16474988268,,986926499 ) Canada, Toronto\n\n\n\nFind a local number ( https://dialin.teams.microsoft.com/028dd1de-1e70-4e35-b173-288fdc9da530?id=986926499 )\n\n\n\nPhone conference ID: 986 926 499#\n\n\n\n\n
